Berner Au Daycare Center—Hamburg, Farmsen-Berne

The Stadtküken Kita Berner Au in Hamburg will welcome about 135 children.
The children are divided into four nursery groups for the youngest children, ages 0–3 (15 children per group), and three elementary groups for children ages 3–6 (approximately 25 children per group). Thanks to our cohesive group concept, every child quickly finds a sense of security and orientation and can feel safe and secure within this familiar community.

Our Stadtküken Daycare Center in Berner Au is expected to be open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. With our family-friendly hours, we aim to ease the burden on families in their daily lives and provide children with a loving, reliable environment throughout the day.

At the Stadtküken Daycare Center in Berner Au, our care program is based on three pillars: nature, mindfulness, and active participation. The children spend a lot of time outdoors, discovering their surroundings with all their senses. At the same time, we create a daily routine with rituals that provide a sense of security, as well as moments of calm and attention in which every child feels seen. And because participation is part of our approach from the very beginning, children help make age-appropriate decisions—and in doing so, gradually grow in self-confidence and independence.

At our Berner Au daycare center, just as in all Stadtküken daycare centers, we want to give the children a calm, loving start to their day. Starting at 7:00 a.m., we warmly welcome the first children. During the free play time that follows, they can settle in at their own pace, get their bearings, and make their first connections.

Around 9:00 a.m., we gather for our morning circle—a regular time to greet one another, listen to each other, and start the day together. Afterward, we usually head outside: to our large outdoor area or into the green surroundings around the Berner Au. There, the children have space to play, explore, and experience nature with all their senses.

A warm lunch is followed by a rest period, and in the afternoon, creative activities, group play, and small projects round out the day. All the children are here between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.—we make the most of this time to learn, discover, and grow together.

Our Berner Au daycare center is located in northeast Hamburg, in the Farmsen-Berne neighborhood, in a quiet, family-friendly residential area. The address is Berner Heerweg 261–263, Hamburg. The property is located at the corner of Neusurenland and Berner Heerweg—nestled in an established residential neighborhood consisting mainly of small apartment buildings, which transitions into single-family homes and townhouses in the surrounding area. The “An der Berner Au” green corridor begins right nearby: paths along the water, playgrounds, and the route leading to Berner See make the area particularly attractive for children and families.

Our Berner Au daycare center is easily accessible by subway and bus—both from the immediate neighborhood and from the surrounding districts. Several bus routes in the area, as well as the subway connection at Farmsen-Berne, make everyday commutes quick and easy. The daycare center is also easily accessible on foot or by bike—and thanks to its location on Berner Heerweg, parents and staff benefit from excellent accessibility.

Yes, of course—you can easily redeem your daycare voucher at our Berner Au daycare center. If you don’t have a voucher yet, you’ll find all the important information about how to apply here —and we’re happy to help if you have any questions.

You can apply for the daycare voucher at your local district office. Good to know: In Hamburg, every child from their first birthday until they start school has a legal right to a daycare spot—and thus also to a daycare voucher. This means that every child aged one and older is entitled to at least 5 hours of care per day, including a hot lunch—regardless of whether the parents work.

If you need longer care hours—for example, 6, 8, or 10 hours a day—you can apply for an extended voucher. In this case, proof of the additional care need is usually required—such as employment, education, or a special need for support.
