How many spots are there at the Johann’s Garten daycare center?
Since the daycare center didn’t open until February 2025, the number of children is growing very gradually, step by step. Despite its size, our Johanns Garten daycare center has a family-like atmosphere and currently has space for about 80 children. Our closed-group concept plays a key role in ensuring that every child feels safe and quickly adapts to regular routines. The groups are currently divided into three nursery groups for children ages 0–3 and two elementary groups for older children ages 3–6. In the nursery groups, we care for about 15 children per group, while the preschool groups care for approximately 25 children per group, ranging in age from 3 to 6. The group sizes are chosen to foster a personal atmosphere and ensure that every child feels safe and secure.

What is a typical daily routine like at the Johann’s Garten daycare center?
The day at our Johanns Garten daycare center begins gently and calmly. Starting at 7:00 a.m., we warmly welcome the children and give them space during free play to settle in at their own pace. By 9:00 a.m. at the latest, all the children are together, and we begin with a morning circle that sets the tone for the day ahead.
After that, we usually head outdoors: to our green outdoor area or to the natural surroundings of Groß Borstel, where the children can experience nature with all their senses. A freshly cooked lunch is followed by a relaxing rest period, during which the children can recharge their energy for the rest of the day.
In the afternoon, creative activities, group play, and exciting projects invite children to discover new things and experience a sense of community. All children are with us between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.—we make the most of this core time to learn, explore, and grow together. After that, the day winds down individually, depending on pickup time.
Where exactly is the Johann’s Garten daycare center located?
Our daycare center is located in Groß Borstel, at Brödermannsweg 42 (22453 Hamburg). This family-friendly residential area is in Hamburg-Nord, between Eppendorf and Niendorf. The daycare center itself is quietly situated on a side street—in the immediate vicinity of Borsteler Chaussee, which defines the neighborhood. Thanks to its location set back from the main street, our daycare center is shielded from prying eyes and offers a small, peaceful retreat. Nestled among tall trees and lush greenery, it creates a protected space where children can immerse themselves in their own world undisturbed.
How is the Johann’s Garten daycare center accessible by public transportation?
Groß Borstel is very well served by bus routes (such as bus line 114). Borsteler Chaussee (not far from the daycare center) is served by regular city buses that provide connections to subway stations such as Lattenkamp and S-Bahn stations such as Ohlsdorf. Our Johann’s Garten daycare center is just a few minutes’ walk from the bus stops on Borsteler Chaussee.

Can I use my City of Hamburg daycare voucher at the Johanns Garten daycare center?
Yes, of course—you can easily redeem your daycare voucher at our Johanns Garten daycare center. If you don’t have a voucher yet, you’ll find all the important information you need to apply for one here.
How do I apply for a daycare voucher?
You can apply for the daycare voucher at your local district office. We’ve compiled all the important information and helpful links for you here.
Good to know: In Hamburg, every child from their first birthday until they start school has a legal right to a daycare spot—and thus also to a daycare voucher. This means that at least 5 hours of care per day, including a hot lunch, are guaranteed for all children starting on their first birthday, regardless of whether their parents work. If you need longer hours of care—for example, 6, 8, or 10 hours a day—you can also apply for a voucher. This usually requires proof of the additional need, such as employment or special educational needs.
