What is a typical day like at the Mühle Daycare Center?
The day at our Mühle daycare center begins gently and warmly: Starting at 7:00 a.m., we welcome the children and create a space for them to settle in comfortably during free play. This gives each child the opportunity to start the day at their own pace. By 9:00 a.m. at the latest, all the children are together—and then our morning circle kicks off our daily routine.
Afterward, we’re usually drawn outdoors: to our spacious grounds or the green surroundings of the mill, where the children play, explore, and experience their environment with all their senses. A freshly prepared lunch is followed by a soothing break to rest and recharge.
In the afternoon, creative activities, play opportunities, and exciting projects invite children to try new things and experience a sense of community. Our core hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.—we make the most of this time to learn, discover, and grow together. After that, the day winds down in a way that’s unique to each child, depending on pickup time.
Where exactly is the Mühle Daycare Center located?
The Mühle Daycare Center is located at Ölmühlenweg 33B, 22047 Hamburg (Wandsbek). It’s right next to the Botanical Garden on the grounds of the historic oil mill—in fact, our daycare is actually the old mill itself, with the Wandse River flowing beneath it. Its location on the Wandse River and surrounded by greenery makes it a special place, even though it’s right in the middle of the city, in Wandsbek.
How is the Mühle Daycare Center accessible by public transportation?
From the Wandsbek Markt subway station , you can reach the Mühle daycare center in just a few minutes by bus. In particular, the Bus Line 9 stops not far from the daycare center (Ölmühlenweg stop) on its route between Wandsbek Markt and the Tonndorf/Rahlstedt train station. This makes the daycare center easily accessible by public transportation for parents and children.
Can I visit the Mühle Daycare Center with my child beforehand?
Yes, of course! Interested parents can easily schedule a tour of the Mühle Daycare Center. You can conveniently book an appointment using our online tool—this gives you the opportunity to take your time getting to know our facilities, our team, and our educational approach together with your child.
Can I use my City of Hamburg daycare voucher at the Mühle Daycare Center?
Yes, of course—you can easily redeem your daycare voucher at our Mühle daycare center. If you don’t have a voucher yet, you’ll find all the important information about how to apply for and use one here.
How do I apply for a daycare voucher?
You can apply for the daycare voucher at your local district office. We’ve compiled all the relevant information and helpful links for you here.
Good to know: In Hamburg, every child from their first birthday until they start school has a legal right to a daycare spot—and thus also to a daycare voucher. This means that at least 5 hours of care per day, including a hot lunch, are guaranteed for all children starting on their first birthday, regardless of their parents’ employment status.
If you need longer care hours (e.g., 6, 8, or 10 hours a day), you can also apply for a corresponding voucher. This usually requires proof of the additional need, such as due to employment or special support needs.
